SMYG St. Mary of the Hills Vision for Youth Ministry:
As the year winds down our numbers become a little bit smaller (see picture below from last week’s meeting) but there are still great discussions to be held. Our meeting on May 9th was our annual Judge & Jury meeting, where we pick a topic, split the group into two sides and hold a debate. This year we chose “Is it okay for the Disney Chanel, whose shows cater to younger viewers, to have kissing on it” as our debate topic. I thought that the debates went well, and both groups did a great job presenting their “arguments”. I had a very difficult time being an impartial judge on this topic; so despite how the topic was argued I was already leaning pretty hard against the topic at hand. We offered the debate up in our closing prayer.
The Moose is Ready! SMYG prides itself on being a meaningful program with lots of great discussions, but there are the rare occasions where we include playing a game as part of our meeting. I did not realize how long it had been since we last played “The Moose is Ready”, but the seniors present said that they had never played that game before. We took twenty or so minutes out of our last meeting and enjoyed simply playing a game together-thanks to all of the participants! I look forward to upcoming “Moose” sessions May 23 The Campfire Meeting May 30 Senior Good –Bye #1 June 6 SAW meeting 7-7:30 PM June 6 Senior Good-Bye #2 June 26 Cedar Point June 27 Parking SAW Fundraiser July 15-22 SAW XV If at anytime you have a question about an event (or anything SMYG or JYG related, please contact me. We’d love to continue encouraging all high school students to give the group a try. Remember even if you have not been to a meeting in a while that the doors are always open for new members. Every high school age person in our parish is invited and allowed to bring friends to our meetings. I truly hope to see YOU at one our upcoming meetings.
