JYG JYG’s meeting on February 24th was run by our “Angels” group. A huge than you goes out to them, especially Tyler Goshnick, Isabella Tan and Ben Lockard for doing such a great job. The group touched on the topic of Lent and we discussed the definition of the word sacrifice-the destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else” and the relevance and importance of sacrificing during this time. The group shared examples of what they are giving up, and or doing extra. We also went over some history of Lent and read the story of the pretzel and how the pretzel is a good symbol for Lent with its design representing folded arms during prayer and its ingredients of water and flour representing fasting. The “Angels” also brought up the recent Haiti earthquake. They explained the significance of the damage caused and showed pictures of buildings before and after the earthquake. They also talked about the importance of helping with either prayer and or monetary gifts to individuals and their families that were affected so deeply by this disaster. Very impressive and moving presentation by the “Angels” overall. We are looking forward to the “Saints” leading next time. The Knights of Columbus essay contest has come to a close. We hope many of you chose to enter and good luck to you all!
